<<I do not probably corresponds to the image that one has of a rebel. I have no tattoos or piercings and I do not have a leather jacket. In fact, most people, when they see me, they think I’m an “oppressed woman”. The few individuals who have gathered their courage to come and ask me about my attire most often asked, “Is that your parents are forcing you to dress well? “Or” Do not you find it unfair to have to clothe you in this way? “
When I cover myself loose clothing and my hijab, people are less likely to judge me on my appearance on my intellect and my personality.
In today’s society, we constantly evaluate women based on their clothing, their jewelry and makeup. What human depth can be found in such a world?Yes, I have a body, a physical manifestation of my presence on this earth. But beyond this visible physical body, there is also an intelligent mind and a soul.My body was not created to be used by companies looking to foam products, from beer to cars, through the food!
Because of the superficiality of the world in which we live, appearances have become so large that the value of the individual counts for almost nothing. The liberation of women is nothing but a myth! What kind of freedom she enjoys the woman when she can not walk on the street without every detail of his physical being observed?
When I wear my hijab, I feel freed of it. I’m sure nobody gets an idea from me based on the length of my skirt. Clothing is a barrier between me and those who would exploit me. I am first and foremost a human being just like any man, and I do not consider myself vulnerable because of my sex.
One of the sad realities of our time is the myth of beauty and the image that the woman is herself. Just browse any magazine for teenage girls to find out which look is “in” or “out”. And if your body does not match the idealized image of magazines, then you are left with more than cosmetic surgery, is not it?After all, it is quite impossible to be both “embedded” beautiful … and you!
Look at any billboard. She is a woman used to sell the advertised product? How old is she? And how is it attractive? What is she wearing? Most often, this woman will be at most in the early twenties, tall, very thin, more attractive than average and barely dressed. Why we women, we let us handle that?
That today’s woman recognizes it or not, she is forced, by all that surrounds it, to match a picture for her and decided to incessant compromise to conform to this image. That is why we girls of 13 who dig your fingers into the throat to induce vomiting and obese adolescents who commit suicide.
When people ask me if I feel oppressed, I can honestly say no. It’s on my own I decided to dress me as well. I like having control over how people perceive me. I like to feel that I give nothing to watch passersby and I love knowing that I’m totally freed me from the grip of the fashion industry and other entities seeking by all means to harness the body of the woman.
My body belongs to me. No one has the right to dictate to me how I dress or decide if I am good or not. I know I am much more than a physical body. I am able to answer “no” without hesitation when someone asks me if I feel that my sexuality is repressed. Instead, I took full control of my sexuality. I choose my priorities and the latest fashion colors do not belong.
So next time you see me, do not look at me with pity or condescension. I am the person under stress, not more than I’m one of those captives who live under the domination of males they admire and they feel superior to them! I am a free woman.>>
